Institute of Transplantation

Client: The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The institute provides the Freeman Hospital with the UK’s first dedicated organ transplant facility.

Specialist care and treatment is offered to recipients and donors from diagnosis through treatment, recuperation and after care.

The building is equipped with four dedicated transplant theatres supported by a 22 bed critical care unit, delivering acute care to patients immediately pre and post operation. A dedicated thirty bed inpatients ward caters for the extended recovery period and also includes facilities for dialysis and long term pre-operative care.

The outpatient clinic and screening ward, operating from the institute’s dedicated entrance, complete the treatment process. Consulting rooms are used for diagnosis, testing and referrals.

The institute incorporates a bespoke education suite including a 100 seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms and conference facilities.

The facility really is top class and the whole patient experience will be superb.
Steven Bannister, Director of Estates and Facilities, Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust
